How to Create a Shim to allow a user in Win7 to run a program that ordinarily requires admin credentials to run
This guide is for creating a shim using Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit
Launch Compatibility Administrator
Right click the
New Database
under
Custom Databases
and select
Create New
>
Application Fix...
Enter the following values in the
Create new Application Fix
window and then click
Next
twice.
Under the
Compatibility Fix
window select
RunasAdmin
and
RunasInvoker
and then click
Next
and
Finish.
This will create a database containing your compatibility fix. To test it right click the database and select Install.
Shims are saved as a .sdb file.
